Oceanside sits partway between LA and San Diego, and its edge is offshore access. When the warm water and the paddies move in, Oceanside boats get a clean, fairly short run out to the blue for tuna and dorado, and a straight shot at San Clemente Island for yellows and seabass.
You don't have to run offshore to bend a rod, though. The Carlsbad and Oceanside kelp and the local reefs hold calico, bass and barracuda close to the harbor, an easy short-range morning when you don't want the long haul.

Best time to fish out of Oceanside
Oceanside comes alive with the warm water. Yellowtail work the kelp and the island from spring into fall, and the offshore tuna-and-dorado game peaks on the summer-and-fall warm push. The local kelp fishes best in the warm months and slows through winter.
